Irish rugby legends Leinster need no introduction. They are the most successful Irish team both domestically and in European competition. Hailing from Dublin the club plays primarily at the RDS Arena.
Founded over 140 years ago in 1879, during the formation of the IRFU. It wasn’t until the mid-1990s that they became fully professional, taking on the nickname of ‘Leinster Lions’ a short time after. This later inspired their mascot, Leo the Lion. Leinster fans are notoriously loyal and the club has a huge following.
Traditionally support for rugby union in Ireland dwindled – but now it is a symbol of pride and pleasure for Dublin. Their European Cup clash against Munster set a world record for attendance of a ‘club’ game – they played in front of a crowd of over 82,000 spectators.
In 2008 Leinster began to dominate on domestic and European levels, ending the season as Celtic League champions.
They went on to win the European Cup in 2011, and the European Challenge Cup in 2013. By 2015 they had enjoyed a remarkable run of seven major trophies in seven years. They have won the British and Irish Cup twice, and the Celtic Cup as well as the Heineken/Champions Cup.
Leinster have unveiled their new Adidas European and alternative jerseys for the 2019/20 season.
The European rugby jersey is an alteration on the traditional blue home jerseys worn by the reigning two-time PRO 14 champions.
The pattern of the Leinster Rugby European jersey takes inspiration from meteorites that fell from the sky and were used by the Laighin people to create their iron spear.
These meteorite formations form the graphic design of the jersey paying homage to the tale of the metal of the Gods, providing bold and vibrant energy for Leinster Rugby’s European campaign.
The alternative rugby jersey is a shade of purple with black strips horizontally across the shirt.
The Alternate jersey embodies the electric energy of Ireland’s east coast at night. The iconic purple skyline forms the colour inspiration for this season’s kit.
Incorporating a twist on the traditional hoop design, the kit harnesses the vibrant energy of the province, whilst maintaining a classic look and feel.
Leinster will continue to wear their existing home rugby jersey for the 2020 season, while this new European kit will be used for the next two campaigns.
