The franchise revealed their new playing strips on Monday, with their home and NRL Nines jerseys joined by a yellow and black "bushshirt" design to be used in Wellington for their match there in June.

The main Vodafone Warriors jersey wil be predominantly white-grey, while there is a one-off kit for the revived NRL Nines in Perth.

With the return of the NRL Nines in Perth next year, the Vodafone Warriors will wear a jersey which pays tribute to their 15 rivals.

The street-art inspired jersey depicts the NRL's 16 clubs as superpowers doing battle for the Nines title and comes complete with a backdrop of thunder clouds and lightning.

The central figure is based on a traditional warrior, complete with patu in hand, who stands tall and ready to take on all who challenge him.

Another yellow jersey is billed as a special strip in Wellington colours, and will be worn as a one-off, when the Warriors take on the North Queensland Cowboys in Wellington on June 27.

The Warriors described the kit as being "decked out in traditional Wellington colours of yellow and black, with inspiration from the Kiwi bush shirt," but the jersey has quickly received a not-so-positive reaction from fans online.

Described on the site as a "design set to turn heads," the jersey features a yellow and black flannel pattern with Warriors branding across the top and on the sleeves.

The jersey hasn't been received well by fans, with many slamming the design as "ugly" and a "joke" on social media.

"Just like the team's performance last year....this has to be some sort of joke....Please," one fan wrote on Twitter.

"This is the ugliest thing I've ever seen," posted another.

One fan went as far to label the yellow and black checkered jersey as "the worst jersey in the history of sports".

The bushshirt, which shares similarities with the Wellington Phoenix kit, will be worn when the team takes the field in Wellington in June.

The Warriors website said the jersey was "going to turn heads".

The team also released a special jersey for the indigenous round of the tournament called the Tāua Tahi.

This design received a different response from fans.

"Looks absolutely awesome," one person commented on Instagram.

According to the team's website, the indigenous jersey was designed to "recognise and pay respect to the tangata whenua of New Zealand as well as Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the spiritual connection that binds them together as people of the land".

"Tāua Tahi is the Māori way of saying 'that's us' – and that is the message our 2020 Indigenous Round jersey aims to convey."  It depicts the coming together of the different indigenous cultures and the mutual respect they have for one another.

The kowhaiwahi design in the background, meanwhile, represents growth, life, positivity and reaching upward toward the light.

The Vodafone Warriors will wear the Tāua Tahi strip in the NRL’s Indigenous Round when they take on the Melbourne Storm at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday, May 23.
