Cheap Stade Français rugby jersey

When you think of rugby you think of big men, hard knocks and, more often than not, lashing wind and rain. What you don't necessarily think about is the on-pitch (or, as the case may be, off-pitch) fashion. Stade Français are the ultimate exception to this rule.

Since they shook the macho sports world in 2005 by choosing pink as one of their team colors, they have consistently made a statement with each new kit.

2016 RUGBY JERSEY

Home

Adidas signed off with a bang with one of the nicest Stade shirts in years, and the fellas wearing it were clearly inspired by it – they went on to unexpectedly win the Top14 title. Now, Japanese firm ASICS has taken on the considerable mantle, they were actually Stade's last supplier before Adidas, back in the comparatively tame blue and red lightning bolt days.

Clearly,  It's not only instant Stade, the famous blue with those classic, unmistakable pink lightning bolts given more prominence than ever before, but there's an impressive level of subtle batshittery going on here, too.

Look closely at the crazy, abstract motif on the front of the shirt and you'll see something that wouldn't look out of place in Timothy Leary’s most friendly acid dream. There's flowers, rays of sunshine, yet more lightning bolts, a giant fleur de lys, some kind of weird bell in a flower, the initials ‘SF’ in prison tattoo font.

It's a lunatic's love letter to Paris, and yet at the same time, it doesn't feel nearly as over the top as some previous Adidas designs have – its essence is a bold, striking but actually pretty classy design, while the mad shit is left for the keen-eyed to enjoy.

Away

The jersey has a vague ancient Roman/Greek vibe to the absolutely stark raving bonkers scene depicted here, especially with those abstract swirly seas around the bottom of the shirt. Perhaps it's more the former, however, given Roman numerals running across the drawing of the Eiffel Tower (back again after last season's impressionistic turn).

The numerals, for those not versed on such things, represent ‘1998’, which those with good memories will recall was the year that Stade won their first Top 14 title in the modern era, and was the start of their period of sustained success in the early 2000s. With Stade back at the top table after last year’s title, it’s very apt.

Third

The third shirt really allows all the tiny details in this absolutely insane design to really stand out, and those with a knowledge of Stade Français jerseys past will see plenty of familiar details here.

There's lightning bolts, of course, everywhere – from the sleeves all the way down to the ones troubling that poor little ship around the bottom of the shirt. Around that area you'll also notice the lilies that became such a hallmark for a while, more fleur de lys, stars, laurel leaves, an abstract rising sun motif.

2017-18 RUGBY JERSEY

The new shirt is produced by ASICS, who are in their third season with the Parisiens, and it once again makes prominent use of Stade's famous lightning bolt design.

The new Stade Francais rugby jersey is the traditional dark blue, with a striking lightning bolt motif across the front, with the dark blue bolts accented by pink and electric outlines, on a light blue starburst background.

Interestingly the new shirt is paired with a classic fold-over collar, and in a very curious move both the Stade Francais club crest and ASICS logo have been located roughly in the centre of the jersey.

2018-19 RUGBY JERSEY

Stade_Francais_2018-19.jpg

The 2018-19 home and away rugby jerseys are a classic slice of bold, brash and eye-catching Stade Francais craziness, with the pink and dark blue jerseys being covered with myriad contrasting lightning bolts, which also extend to the shorts.

The third shirt is notably different – a white jersey with hand-drawn outlines of myriad Stade-y stuff – lillies, an Eiffel Tower, an old fashioned scrum cap, the odd lightning bolt.

The new club logo, unusually for a club as out there as Stade, isn’t actually that drastic a change – certainly not compared to the Bristol and Gloucester makeovers we've seen this year.

In truth it's very similar to the old crest – the shield is a bit more stylised and has lost the two-tone throwback to the old badge they wore in the 90s, the lightning bolts have been stylised a bit, and the word ‘Paris’ has been brought into the shield itself, in a new font that appears to have been borrowed from Babylon 5.

To us, this new crest unarguably looks worse than the old one – it somehow already looks dated – but given the regularity with which Stade change their branding, we wouldn't get too worried.

2019-20 RUGBY JERSEY

The Parisian club will return to wearing Kappa gear for the 2019/20 season, bringing their four-year association with ASICS to a close.

Stade Français have revealed their much anticipated new jerseys for the 2019/20 season, which are the first since the signed with Kappa.

The new shirts feel very much ‘classic’ Stade Français, with a pink primary jersey sporting three prominent lightning bolts on the front.  and a blue one with the same pattern.

The shirts also sport a new stub-style collar design.
